MPs Urgently Propose Motion on US Tariff Impact Amid Parliamentary Dispute

Bangkok: MPs rush to propose a motion on the US tariff wall, causing "Pakornwut" to protest due to the system malfunction, complaining that it did not follow the whip's resolution. "Cholnan" criticized the chairman, saying that if it was considered, it could not be proposed again. Meanwhile, "Chulphan" said that the Prime Minister was very interested and asked to bring civil servants to listen to the meeting.

According to Thai News Agency, the House of Representatives meeting, chaired by Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, the second deputy speaker of the House, was disrupted by a series of urgent motions proposed in response to the United States' recent tax increase. Mr. Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, Chachoengsao MP from the Kla Tham Party, emphasized the global impact of the US tariff hike, particularly on Thailand's farmers, and proposed an urgent motion for government intervention.

Following suit, MPs from various parties, including Mr. Noppadol Pattama from the Pheu Thai Party and Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul from the Prachachon Party, proposed similar motions to address the tariff's impact on Thailand's economy. As more motions were proposed, Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul from the Prachachon Party protested the lack of coordination with party whips, highlighting the inefficiencies caused by the ad-hoc proposals.

Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Deputy Minister of Finance, noted the government's interest in the issue and proposed that cabinet members participate in the discussions to facilitate negotiations with the United States. Despite the procedural disputes, MPs like Mr. Atthakorn stressed the importance of safeguarding Thailand's agricultural sector and proposed strategic measures for mitigating the tariff's impact.

Mr. Atthakorn's proposals included careful negotiation to protect farmers, exploring additional trading partners, preparing for increased product flows from Europe, and compensating affected farmers. He urged the House to promptly communicate these concerns to the government for consideration in future negotiations.
