Motorcycle Thief Killed in Police Shootout; Accomplice Still at Large

Bangkok: One motorcycle thief was killed in a confrontation with police, while another suspect remains at large. At 12:15 pm, police officers acted on a tip-off about two individuals who had stolen a motorcycle two days prior. The suspects were reportedly parked under an expressway near Wat Siriphong, within the Bang Khen Police Station area.

According to Thai News Agency, officers from Khan Na Yao Police Station were dispatched to the scene and observed the suspects arriving on a motorcycle. As police moved to apprehend them, one suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the release of his accomplice. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, officers initially released the detained suspect. However, as the duo prepared to flee, the armed suspect threatened officers once more.

In self-defense, the police fired two shots, striking the pillion passenger in the head and leg, resulting in his death. The armed suspect managed to escape on the motorcycle. Authorities discovered a stolen motorcycle at the scene, which was linked to a previous theft reported at Khok Khram Police Station and have taken it as evidence.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the escaped suspect, while the deceased's body awaits autopsy pending further investigation.
