Mother Opens Up About Border Clash That Took Her Son’s Life

Mukdahan: Relatives prepare to receive the body of brave soldier 'Sgt. Maj. Thawatchai' who was shot and killed by Cambodian soldiers. His mother revealed that her son wanted to be a soldier, took the sergeant exam, and worked in the border area for more than 10 years. Although she still can't accept it now, she is proud that her son has done something for the country.

According to Thai News Agency, the family of Sergeant Major Thawatchai Busapa, aged 35, gathered at his home in Ban Song Subdistrict, Khamcha-i District, Mukdahan Province, to prepare a place to receive the body of Sergeant Major Thawatchai, who died while on duty on the Thai-Cambodian border. Sergeant Major Thawatchai was on a mission to shoot at Cambodian tanks.

Mrs. Wilai, aged 58, mother of Sergeant Major Thawatchai, said that last night (July 24) at around 9:00 p.m., her son called to say that he had finished his mission and was going to take a shower and go to bed. After that, he hung up. Later, she saw news about the border clash, so she called her son and received the bad news that her son had died. Her son wanted to be a soldier, so he was conscripted. Then he liked it, so he took the sergeant exam and has been working in the border area for more than 10 years. Although he still cannot accept the loss of his son, he is proud of what his son has done for the country.

Reporters spoke with Ms. Racharin, the wife of Sgt. Maj. Thawatchai, who told of a premonition that at around 4:00 AM (July 25), her husband suddenly sent a message saying he wanted a picture of his 1-year-old son, but she was asleep. She woke up to read the message again at around 5:00 AM. Then, at around 9:00 AM, relatives called to inform her that her husband had died.

The reporter traveled to Nong Mack's hometown in Na Wa District, Nakhon Phanom Province, and met with Mr. Montree, aged 46, and Ms. Walairak, aged 47, Nong Mack's father and mother, along with Nong Mack's sister and grandmother. They were in a state of grief and were preparing to take Nong Mack's body back to their hometown.

Nong Max's mother cried and said in a trembling voice that when she heard the news around 5:00 PM that her son had died, she fainted. Yesterday (July 24) around 9:00 AM, her son called to say that he was going to light the gun because he was in the position of the M-1 gun and was the one who fired the bullet. She told her son to let the Lord protect him and take care of himself. Then she heard the news from her son's soldier friend. At first, she didn't believe him until the Na Wa District Chief confirmed the bad news to her.

My son will soon be discharged from the military. He even said that he will take the Border Patrol Police exam. I hope that I will entrust my life to him when I am old, but I did not think that he would pass away so suddenly.
