Ministry of Transport to Propose Joint Ticket Act to Cabinet.

Bangkok: Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, has announced that the Ministry of Transport is set to propose the Joint Ticket Act to the Cabinet. The initiative includes a plan for a 20 baht flat-rate electric train fare, expected to be rolled out by September 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, Suriya disclosed prior to the cabinet meeting that the Ministry of Transport is poised to present the draft of the Common Ticket Act. Following cabinet approval, the common ticket system is anticipated to be fully operational by June 2025. This system aims to establish a fund that will subsidize electric train operators, enabling them to offer the reduced fare of 20 baht across all lines. The fund will be supported by initial capital from the government, as well as revenue from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). Additionally, efforts in energy conservation will also contribute to the fund’s resources.

Suriya further mentioned that upon the fund’s completion, the
20 baht flat-rate electric train project is slated for implementation in September 2025.
