Milan: The Ministry of Energy announced at the Gastech 2025 stage in Milan, Italy, that Thailand is ready to become an LNG hub in the ASEAN region, linking economies and creating energy security for the country, and is ready to host the Gastech event next year.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Samerjai Suksumek, Advisor to the Minister of Energy, delivered a speech at Gastech 2025 in Milan, Italy, emphasizing Thailand's role as a key player in Asia's liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. He highlighted Thailand's potential in many areas, including technology, innovation, strategic location, and workforce readiness. He added that the future of energy will be determined by Asia, as it is currently the largest LNG market. Energy demand in the region continues to grow, driven by a strong economy and expanding industries. This demonstrates Thailand's strong potential and the energy security envisioned by the Ministry of Energy.
"For many Asian countries, natural gas, or LNG, is a reliable and resilient energy source. Thailand is the largest LNG importer in ASEAN and the sixth largest in the Asia-Pacific region, and is expanding its LNG import terminal to increase its capacity to 19 million tons per year, which will meet the country's needs and support the wider region," stated Mr. Samerjai.
Thailand's selection to host Gastech 2026 in Bangkok reflects the growing importance of Asia in the global energy industry, given its strategic location connecting over 70% of global trade. "We believe Gastech will be a platform where countries can collaborate to make a significant impact on both the energy industry and consumers around the world. Next year's edition of the event in Thailand will be a memorable and significant landmark for innovation, collaboration, and progress, demonstrating Thailand's commitment to developing clean energy and promoting energy efficiency to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of the Thai people," concluded Mr. Samerjai.
