Ministry of Education Urges Exam Postponement for Flood-Affected Students in Southern Provinces.

Bangkok: The Ministry of Education has advised Mathayom 6 students residing in flood-stricken regions to defer their TGAT/TPAT examinations, assuring them of the integrity and equality of exam standards across all venues.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, addressed concerns surrounding the upcoming TGAT/TPAT exams scheduled for December 7-9. Severe flooding in Yala and Narathiwat provinces has necessitated the postponement of exams in these areas, requiring the deployment of a new set of test questions. This situation has sparked anxiety among Mathayom 6 students nationwide regarding potential disparities in exam preparation and question fairness.

The spokesperson highlighted that the flooding in the southern region significantly impacts Mathayom 6 students gearing up for the exams. The Ministry, in collaboration with the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT), announced the rescheduling of exam dates for four affected l
ocations in Yala and Narathiwat to December 21-23, 2024. This has raised concerns about exam inequality due to the introduction of a second set of questions.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes its understanding and empathy for Mathayom 6 students, acknowledging concerns about unequal preparation and differing exam difficulties. While some have called for a nationwide postponement, the Ministry believes that limiting postponements to flood-affected areas will minimize disruption, as many unaffected students have already adequately prepared. The Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) is committed to ensuring a fair and equal exam process for all, recognizing the significance of this exam period as students transition to university.

Students are encouraged to remain hopeful and focused, despite the challenges posed by the floods in the lower South. The Ministry assures that the newly administered exams will meet the same standards, with consistent test writers and content aligned with the Blue Prin
t, promoting equality and equal exam access. The OHEC has proactively managed risks to ensure fairness for all parties involved, according to Thai News Agency.
