Ministry of Education to Implement Strict Measures Against Sexual Harassment in Schools

Bangkok: The Ministry of Education has announced its firm stance against sexual harassment in educational institutions, emphasizing that serious disciplinary actions will be taken, including expulsion and the revocation of professional licenses.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, conveyed the concerns of Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, the Minister of Education. The Minister highlighted the importance of addressing sexual harassment issues with severe disciplinary measures. The Ministry urges educational staff to prioritize student safety and ensure that educational environments are secure for both students and teachers.

Reports of sexual abuse within schools have prompted the Ministry to stress the urgency of effective management strategies to enhance safety. The Ministry acknowledges that such issues can have long-lasting impacts on students' mental health and educational development. Teachers are encouraged to closely monitor student behavior for signs of distress or abuse and to provide appropriate support. In situations where the problem is beyond the teachers' capacity, they are advised to seek assistance from local psychologists.

The Ministry also recommends that schools conduct training sessions to educate teachers and students about abuse, and establish a secure reporting system for incidents. This system should allow students and parents to report cases of abuse with assurance that these will be managed confidentially and effectively. The Ministry reminds educators and staff to maintain professionalism and avoid actions that could jeopardize their careers and harm others. The Teachers Council is prepared to enforce strict penalties, including suspending or revoking professional licenses, for any unethical conduct.
