Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce is actively engaging with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) to create a modern investment environment, aiming to accelerate the development of the Thai capital market. The Department of Business Development, following government policy, is taking steps to revise share buyback criteria for public companies to enhance flexibility and competitiveness. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, has initiated discussions with the Stock Exchange of Thailand and Kasikornbank. These discussions focus on exchanging strategies for capital market development and addressing suggestions, problems, and obstacles faced by the business sector. A key topic of the discussions is the revision of regulations concerning share repurchases by public limited companies. The aim is to modernize these regulations to suit current market conditions. The Department plans to expedite the revision of Ministerial Regulations rel ated to share repurchases, sales, and the cancellation of repurchased shares, with announcements expected soon. Mr. Poonpong emphasized that the meeting serves as a platform not only for policy exchange but also for gathering direct input from the capital market and private sectors. This input is essential for refining laws, regulations, and support mechanisms that align with government policies on reforming regulations that may hinder or burden businesses. The Department of Business Development has reiterated its commitment to improving regulations to ensure convenience, transparency, and good governance.
