Minister of Justice Offers Support After Novice Monk’s Tragic Death

Saba Yoi: The Minister of Justice made a video call to offer moral support to the parents of a novice monk who was shot and killed by an assailant while collecting alms in Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province. Villagers called for the assailant to be tracked down and prosecuted.

According to Thai News Agency, at Wat Thamnien Thammaram, Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province, where the funeral rites for Samanera Wongkon Chumaparn are being held, the tragic event unfolded when gunmen ambushed and shot at a pickup truck. This attack occurred as the monk was leaving Wat Ko Aphinihan or Wat Kuhra, Tambon Pian, Amphoe Saba Yoi, along with six other monks and samaneras on the morning of April 22.

Today, a large number of villagers gathered for the funeral ceremony, offering their respects and support to the grieving family. Pol. Lt. Gen. Pattanawut Angkanavin, representing Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, attended the funeral ceremony. He donated money and conveyed condolences to the family on behalf of the government and the Ministry of Justice. Through a video call, Pol. Col. Thawee extended his sympathies and announced plans to contact Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, currently on a mission in the area, to participate in the cremation ceremony.

Pol. Col. Tawi, expressing his empathy as a fellow police officer, offered support to the bereaved family. The cremation ceremony for Samanera Wongkorn is scheduled to take place tomorrow at Wat Thamnien Thammaram, Saba Yoi District, Songkhla Province.
