Minister Calls for Survey of Smartphone-Less Elderly for 10,000 Baht Project

Bangkok: Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, has instructed ministry officials across the nation to conduct a survey of senior citizens lacking smartphones to facilitate their entry into the government's 10,000 baht project.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the government has initiated the '10,000 Baht Economic Recovery Project' for citizens possessing state welfare cards, disabled persons with ID cards, and those elderly who have registered via the 'Tang Rath' smartphone application. Despite these efforts, a significant number of elderly individuals, key targets of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), remain unregistered due to the absence of smartphones. During a video call on February 21 with elderly citizens and their foster families across five provinces, Mr. Varawut found several seniors excluded from the program, awaiting future phases that accommodate non-smartphone users.

Mr. Varawut has directed provincial Social Development and Human Security Offices and teams to collaborate with local volunteers to personally reach out to these seniors. The goal is to identify those who have not participated in the project and provide necessary assistance and guidance for registration in upcoming phases. This initiative aims to ensure that elderly citizens benefit from the project, which not only offers a monthly allowance but also alleviates living expenses, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
