Milk Can Incident Raises Security Concerns in Parliament

Bangkok: During a House of Representatives meeting chaired by Mr. Phradorn Prisananantakul, a can of milk incident prompted a discussion on the security measures within the parliamentary premises. The can, which fell amidst a group of Pheu Thai MPs, was later found to have expired in 2020. It is suspected to have been left behind during construction.

According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Speaker clarified that the milk can had not been thrown by any member and CCTV footage confirmed it fell from above. The discovery of an expired snack bag alongside the can suggested that the items had been lodged in the building structure for years. Mr. Phradorn emphasized the fortune that the object was not a bomb and initiated an inspection for potential safety hazards.

Mr. Wirach Pimphanit, a Pheu Thai Party MP, expressed his concerns about the parliamentary safety, suggesting that if such objects can fall, it poses a significant risk to members. He urged for an inquiry into the incident and called for measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Dr. Cholanat Srikaew, another Pheu Thai MP, echoed the security concerns, urging for comprehensive security protocols to protect against potential threats, including possible bomb scenarios. He emphasized the need for stringent safety regulations to ensure the well-being of all parliamentary members.

Mr. Phradon reiterated the importance of addressing the security vulnerabilities within the parliament, acknowledging the MPs' concerns and advocating for improvements in safety measures during future fiscal years.
