Meteorological Department Issues Weather Warning for South and Upper Thailand.

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding adverse weather conditions expected to impact various regions of Thailand. The warning highlights heavy rainfall in the southern part of the country, strong winds in the lower Gulf of Thailand, and cold weather in the upper regions, effective from November 28 to 30, 2024. According to Thai News Agency, the alert stems from a high-pressure area or cold air mass moving down from China, covering the upper parts of Thailand and the South China Sea. This, combined with the northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand and the South, is expected to result in significant weather changes. A low-pressure cell over the eastern coast of Malaysia is anticipated to move towards the lower Andaman Sea, causing heavy to very heavy rain in numerous provinces including Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and several others. Residents in these areas have been advised to prepare for potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in hillside regions near waterways and lowlands. The meteorological department also forecasts heightened wave activity in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. The upper Gulf and Andaman Sea will see waves approximately 2 meters high, with potential increases during thunderstorms. The lower Gulf of Thailand could experience waves reaching 2-3 meters, and higher during storms. Mariners are urged to exercise caution, avoiding areas with thunderstorms, while small boats are advised against setting sail during this period. Coastal residents in the lower southern region should remain alert to the threat of waves impacting the shore. In the upper parts of Thailand, a drop in temperature by 1-3 degrees Celsius is expected, accompanied by strong winds. Residents are encouraged to take necessary health precautions against the colder temperatures and remain vigilant for potential fire hazards due to dry conditions and strong winds. The public is advised to stay updated with announcements from the Meteorological Department, available on their website and via their hotline, operational 24 hours a day. The next official update is scheduled for release on the evening of November 28, 2024.
