Meteorological Department Issues Warning for Heavy Rain Across Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding heavy to very heavy rain expected throughout Thailand, cautioning residents about the potential for flash floods, mudslides, and landslides. The forecast covers the northern, northeastern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and the western coast of the southern region.

According to Thai News Agency, the department has advised people to be vigilant about the dangers of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and mudslides, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and lowlands. It is recommended to avoid traveling through regions experiencing thunderstorms and routes prone to recurring flooding, especially in low-lying areas susceptible to short-term flooding. Farmers are encouraged to enhance drainage systems in their fields to mitigate potential damage to crops and livestock, as a monsoon trough is expected to pass through the lower central, eastern, and upper southern regions. The southwest monsoon affects the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The sea conditions in the Andaman Sea are moderate, with waves approximately 2 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and 1-2 meters in the lower part. In regions experiencing thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas plagued by thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.

The regional weather forecast indicates a high probability of thunderstorms and heavy rain across the country. In Bangkok and surrounding areas, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 24-33 degrees Celsius. The northern region will also experience thunderstorms in 80% of the area, with heavy rain in provinces like Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. The northeastern region expects 70% coverage of thunderstorms and significant rainfall in areas such as Loei and Khon Kaen. The central region forecasts similar conditions with heavy rain predicted in places like Nakhon Sawan and Lop Buri.

In the eastern region, thunderstorms are likely in 70% of the area with heavy rain in provinces like Chon Buri and Rayong. The southern region, both east and west coasts, will see varied rainfall, with the western coast experiencing 80% coverage and notable rainfall in regions such as Phuket and Krabi.

Overall, residents across Thailand are urged to remain cautious and stay updated on weather developments to ensure safety and minimize the impact on daily activities and livelihoods.
