Massive Turnout as Buddha’s Tooth Relic Leaves Sanam Luang for China

Bangkok: Crowds of people joined the ceremony to bring the 'Buddha's Tooth Relic' out of Sanam Luang. The procession carrying the relics of the Buddha (the crystal tooth) has left Sanam Luang. Many people joined the ceremony. The statistics of the number of people who came to pay homage throughout the 73 days were more than 3 million people.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, as the representative of the Prime Minister, presided over the Thai government in the ceremony to bring the Buddha's relics (the crystal tooth relic) back to the People's Republic of China. The Thai representatives included Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office, Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Culture, Ms. Thirarat Samretwanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, Ms. Yupha Thaweewattanakitbaworn, Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, Thai delegations, Chinese delegations, Thai and Chinese monks.

As for the ceremonial arrangements, starting at 6:00 a.m. there was a Buddhist chanting ceremony by the Thai and Chinese monks. After that, the Thai executives and Chinese representatives lined up to receive the procession carrying the Buddha's relics (the Glass Tooth Relic) out of the pavilion where it was enshrined, to be placed on a royal carriage. After that, the procession of honor carrying the Buddha's relics (the Glass Tooth Relic) moved from Sanam Luang at 7:00 a.m. to Military Airport 2, Wing 6.

Today, many people wearing white and yellow shirts joined the ceremony at the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground. From asking those who came to the ceremony, it was found that they came from both Bangkok and other provinces. Many came to pay homage to the Buddha's relics (the crystal tooth) many times. Some people came 5 times, some 8 times. They intended to pay homage as many times as possible if they had the chance because it is considered an auspicious thing in life.

This is according to the Thai government and the government of the People's Republic of China inviting the Buddha's relic (the glass tooth relic) from the Lingguang Temple, Beijing, the People's Republic of China, to be temporarily enshrined in Bangkok to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty's 6th cycle birthday anniversary on July 28, 2024, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in 2025. It is open for the public to pay homage from December 5, 2024, to February 14, 2025, a total of 73 days, which is considered an important and auspicious activity. Throughout the past period, many Thai and foreign people have come to pay homage to the Buddha's relic (the glass tooth relic). According to statistics, there are more than 3 million people.
