Lt. Gen. Boonsin Stresses Prime Minister’s Responsibility in Cambodian Standstill

Bangkok: Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang emphasized the crucial role of the Prime Minister in addressing the issue of Cambodians remaining in Thailand during a lecture at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep. He highlighted that if efforts to have Cambodians leave Thailand fail, the Prime Minister must take primary responsibility.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin made these remarks while lecturing on "True Stories from the Border, Protecting the Thai Land." The event was part of the university's "Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep Joins in Building the Power of Unity" project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pichai Chanmanee, the university's president, and a large audience of students and public members attended the event. Lt. Gen. Boonsin shared insights into recent conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia and praised the soldiers' bravery.

Lt. Gen. Boonsin, who serves as an advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army and is a former Commander of the Second Army Region, emphasized his ongoing commitment to public service. He noted that his role as a special royal bodyguard and advisor involves engaging with the public and students. Additionally, he directs a course on building a peaceful society at the King Prajadhipok's Institute, reflecting his dedication to societal peace.

During the Q and A session, Lt. Gen. Boonsin addressed inquiries about the methods and timeline for encouraging Cambodians to leave Thailand. He stressed that responsibility lies with the Prime Minister, who must coordinate with various ministries and follow a structured approach to avoid arbitrary actions, considering the impact on international relations. He urged public support for officials handling the situation and stressed the need for contingency plans to ensure the mission's success.

The event concluded with Lt. Gen. Boonsin representing the university in awarding 30 scholarships to children of military personnel under the Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep Scholarships for the Royal Thai Armed Forces program. These scholarships honor the service and sacrifice of those protecting Thailand's sovereignty and peace. Lt. Gen. Boonsin posed for photographs with university students and staff, marking the event's success.
