Lone Robber Escapes with Over 40,000 Baht from Chiang Mai Bank

Chiang Mai: A lone robber made off with more than 40,000 baht after breaking into a bank in Chiang Mai and fleeing in a red songthaew. Police are currently examining CCTV footage to identify and track down the suspect.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at noon, with the robber described as a slim man wearing a shirt, hat, jeans, black sneakers, and a mask to conceal his identity. The brazen theft took less than two minutes, after which the robber escaped down an alley opposite the bank and boarded a red songthaew along the old San Kamphaeng route.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchai Wongwiwatchai, deputy commander of Provincial Police Region 5, personally inspected the crime scene. Initial findings indicate the crime was committed by a lone individual on foot. Authorities are actively questioning witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage to expedite the apprehension of the suspect, emphasizing the urgency due to the daylight nature of the crime in a central city location.
