Lion Cub Mahasi Thrives in Quarantine at Bueng Chawak Wildlife Sanctuary

Bangkok: “The Queen,” a young lion cub named Mahasi, is currently undergoing a seven-day quarantine at the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Management Development Center, where she has been for the last four days.

According to Thai News Agency, the 1-year-2-month-old female lion is adapting well to her temporary environment and forming a bond with her caretaker.

Dr. Natthanon Panphet, head of the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Sanctuary, reported that Mahasi has been consuming a healthy diet, including 4 kilograms of food daily. Her meals consist of 1 kilogram each of chicken carcasses and beef, along with 2 kilograms of chicken breast. This dietary routine is deemed beneficial for her health and recovery during the quarantine period.

The caretaker closely monitors Mahasi throughout the day, ensuring her well-being and immediate veterinary attention if any issues arise. After completing the seven-day quarantine, Mahasi will be evaluated for release into a specially prepared outdoor area, marking the next step in her adaptation process.
