Linthiphon Affirms Schools in Thai-Cambodian Border Zone Remain Closed Due to Security Concerns

Kantharalak: Linthiphon Warinwatcharoj, Deputy Minister of Education, has emphasized that educational institutions located in the conflict zone along the Thai-Cambodian border will not be reopening. This comes after a request from Kantharalak Technical College to resume instruction, highlighting that security considerations must prevail.

According to Thai News Agency, Linthiphon reiterated that the Minister of Education has made it clear that safety is the paramount concern. Although there have been discussions about reopening some schools, particularly the Technical College in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, any such decision must come from the Ministry. It was discovered that the initiative to reopen came from the school director, and the Ministry is aware of this, but the general directive remains unchanged for schools serving as shelters.

When questioned about adherence to Ministry orders, Linthiphon confirmed their importance and necessity. She further clarified that technical colleges desiring to reopen are being reminded of the ongoing unrest, which makes reopening impossible at this time. The mental readiness of students is also a concern, as they are not yet prepared to return to school amidst the current situation. The closure directive remains, with plans to support students' mental health through collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Chulalongkorn University for on-site psychological rehabilitation.
