Chiang mai: The leader of the Shan 999 gang has been charged with severely slashing a 14-year-old girl's wrist. Police have filed serious charges against the leader after the attack, which took place in Chiang Mai, and involved the use of a sword to injure the teenager. The suspect was arrested in Chachoengsao Province.
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation by Provincial Police Region 5 and Provincial Police Region 1 led to the arrest of Mr. Top, the leader of the Shan 999 gang, in Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao Province. The suspect, along with 14 others, including Mr. Mong, a close associate who had been arrested earlier, attacked Chiang Mai teenagers and used a sword to injure three of them. One of the victims, a 14-year-old girl, suffered a severed wrist, which was later successfully reattached by doctors at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital.
Following the incident, Mr. Top fled from Chiang Mai Province and went into hiding in Chachoengsao Province. He was preparing to flee to Cambodia but was arrested before he could do so. Police have since taken Mr. Top back to Chiang Mai Province for prosecution. He faces charges of serious bodily harm and carrying a knife in public, with additional charges pending.
The gang, comprised of Myanmar teenagers aged between 14 and 31 years, is known as the "Black Lotus Gang" and the "999 Gang." Mr. Mong, who wielded the samurai sword, confessed that the attack was in retaliation for a previous assault on their juniors by another group of teenagers. Following the attack, the group dispersed and fled. Police had previously apprehended 14 individuals before finally capturing the gang leader, Mr. Top.
Police have reported that Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakhon, Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, will hold a press conference announcing the arrests tomorrow.
