Lawyer to Record Daily Seizure of Employee Phones Amid Legal Concerns

Bangkok: Lawyer Boss Paul is preparing to document the daily seizure of mobile phones from employees of The Icon Group, following an operation by the Central Investigation Bureau that may contravene legal provisions. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witoon Kaengngan, the legal representative of Mr. Woraratphon Woratworakul, commonly known as Boss Paul, disclosed plans to compile a daily record after police officers questioned employees from The Icon Group and seized their mobile phones. The actions, conducted after searches at 11 locations, are perceived as a violation of Section 157 of the Act of Neglecting Duty. Employees were interrogated about their income sources, specifically regarding commission, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM the previous day. Lawyer Boss Paul expressed confusion over the confiscation of mobile phones, especially after employees consistently denied the allegations. He announced intentions to gather witnesses at 1:00 PM to visit Phaholyothin Police Station and potentially log the events. However, he clarified that a formal complaint would not be filed immediately, as the team plans to address the issue with the police inspector general under Section 157, which addresses improper conduct by officers. The lawyer further explained that Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, the deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, would not handle the prosecution due to potential conflicts of interest with the Consumer Protection Police Division.
