Bangkok: Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich has announced the formation of a new political party, "Thai Kao Mai," in collaboration with Dr. Ae. The move comes after her resignation from the Democrat Party, intending to leverage science, technology, education, and water management to navigate Thailand through its current crises.
According to Thai News Agency, Khunying Kalaya, a seasoned politician with 25 years in the Democrat Party, articulated her desire to advance initiatives she passionately supports, which she felt could no longer be pursued within her former party. She emphasized the urgency she felt due to her age, stating she wanted to maximize her remaining years by contributing effectively to the nation's progress. Her respect for the Democrat Party remains intact, despite her departure.
Khunying Kalaya explained that the dream of establishing a new party has been under discussion for some time, motivated by the desire to help the country overcome crises. Her background, growing up in the countryside and acquiring education in science and technology, inspired her to push for these fields to aid Thailand's development. Her work at the Ministry of Education involved addressing water issues, with significant projects underway, including a major prototype in Khon Kaen Province aimed at providing sustainable water solutions and increasing community income.
Discussions around the new party have progressed, and Khunying Kalaya anticipates an imminent launch. However, the timeline remains uncertain, pending an announcement from Mr. Suchatvee Suwansawat. She expressed confidence in the party's potential to unite people from various sectors to address Thailand's challenges using science and technology.
Khunying Kalaya extended gratitude to Democratic leaders like Mr. Chuan, Mr. Banyat, Mr. Jurin, and Mr. Abhisit for their support throughout her career. She acknowledged the current challenges facing the Democrat Party and stressed the need for fresh ideas and younger generations to drive modernization. Despite her resignation, she remains committed to serving the country.
In response to questions about what the new party will offer, Khunying Kalaya deferred details to the party leader, noting the widespread concern for the country's future and the need for timely action. She emphasized the importance of modernizing and educating the next generation to ensure they can compete globally.
As a symbolic gesture of respect, Khunying Kalaya paid homage to the Democrat Party's symbol and presented a book titled "You Are Kalaya" to the media, marking a new chapter in her political journey.
