K9 Dogs Detect Human Scent Under Collapsed Office of the Auditor General Building

Bangkok: K9 dogs have detected the scent of humans under the collapsed Office of the Auditor General building, but have not yet been able to determine the number or status of those trapped. Initial reports have been made to officials.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Alongkot Chukaew, Deputy Director of the National Rescue Dog Organization, revealed that this morning at approximately 8:00 a.m., three K9 dogs were brought in. The team included Naree, a Belgian Malinois, Lily, a Golden Retriever, and Sahara, a Golden Retriever (working line) with experience working both in Thailand and abroad, to perform search duties in areas A, C, and D.

In their search, the three K9 dogs did not react upon entering Zone A. However, in the area between Zones A and D, Sahara crawled into a large concrete slab hole and began signaling by barking. Officers investigated and reported to the authorities, as they found it to be an area of interest, suggesting the presence of a human scent. Additionally, Sahara barked in the middle of Zone D, where another small hole was found nearby. Despite these findings, the status and number of people trapped remain undetermined.

Officials are also focusing on providing emotional support to the affected relatives. Dogs on standby will be used to offer comfort to relatives monitoring the situation, allowing them to interact with the dogs as a form of initial relief.
