Jirayu Urges Rigorous Vetting of Ministerial Qualifications to Avoid “Fermented Bean Curd” Label

Bangkok: Jirayu Huangsap, former chairman of the House Committee on Judicial Affairs, has called for a stringent examination of ministerial qualifications, warning against what he terms as "fermented bean curd" appointments. He emphasized the need for the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) to conduct thorough inspections of all 14 agencies, mirroring the practices of the previous government, and to eliminate double standards.

According to Thai News Agency, Jirayu criticized the Prime Minister's decision to involve Teng in the screening process and stressed the importance of a consistent vetting approach by the Cabinet Secretariat (OCSC). He highlighted that the previous administration took over 30 days to meticulously scrutinize the qualifications and backgrounds of all political office holders, ensuring a uniform standard.

Jirayu expressed concern about the potential formation of a "Tofu Yi" cabinet and urged the People's Party, as the government's voting platform, to play an active role in vetting every cabinet member's qualifications. He recommended that the People's Party leader should assist in verifying these qualifications before they are submitted to the Cabinet Secretary and the National Legislative Assembly for approval. Jirayu pointed out that public confidence in the People's Party, which had previously been part of a blue-green alliance, is currently lacking despite its involvement in signing the MOA.
