Immunity: The Sangha Council Amends Rules to Save the Sangha from Crisis of Faith

Bangkok: The Sangha Council has taken decisive action by amending its rules to address a growing crisis of faith within the Sangha community. This move comes in response to recent scandals that have shaken public confidence in the religious institution. The amendments, approved during a recent meeting of the Sangha Supreme Council, specifically target cases where monks are found to have violated the Dhamma and Vinaya.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting underscored the Sangha Council's exclusive authority to make decisions on such matters. Additionally, it established new channels for information exchange with external agencies, including the Royal Thai Police. This measure aims to facilitate a more transparent response to any complaints that are lodged through various avenues, thereby reinforcing accountability and integrity within the Sangha.
