Hunt for Perpetrator After Pipe Bomb Attack Injures Six at Yala Train Station

Yala: Criminals caused chaos in Yala Province twice, throwing pipe bombs and injuring many villagers before setting off another bomb in front of a temple during an ordination ceremony. The Yala commander has ordered the highest level of security measures in the area to hunt down the criminals. From the incident of two unidentified assailants running from the road on the old market side opposite the outbound guard post, they threw two pipe bombs at the guard post on the railway road (inbound side). The bombs hit a Bodhi tree and fell on the road, causing an explosion. Shrapnel struck the wheels of a trailer truck and hit people driving past, resulting in six injuries. The incident occurred at 7:15 p.m. yesterday.

According to Thai News Agency, officers from related security agencies convened to monitor the situation and raised the security measures to the highest level by conducting strict inspections across all areas. Pol. Maj. Gen. Natthakorn Kanchanaphon, Commander of Yala Provincial Police, disclosed after the meeting that substantial evidence, including witness accounts and CCTV footage, is available to track and further investigate the perpetrators. Stricter preventive measures will be implemented, with all task forces deployed to the area. Authorities will be immediately notified if any suspicious objects, persons, or signs of danger are detected.

Explosions also occurred at temples during ordination ceremonies. At Wat Haphimuk, Na Tham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yala Province, an explosion took place while around 30 villagers attended an ordination ceremony at the temple. Witnesses reported seeing a round object wrapped in electrical tape fall on the walkway in front of the temple during the procession, which was kicked to the side of the road and subsequently thrown onto the road, causing an immediate explosion. The timing of when the perpetrators placed the object remains unknown, resulting in several injuries from shrapnel.

The 305th Police CPO team investigated the bomb and discovered it was a throwable device packed in a plastic bag, wrapped in black electrical tape, and included a rock as shrapnel. This type of bomb detonates upon impact. Officials are currently investigating the cause of the bombing and are actively tracking those involved in the incident.
