House Secretary Clarifies Postponement of Casino Law as Meeting Resolution

Bangkok: 'Secretary of the House' confirms that the postponement of the casino law is a resolution of the meeting. Secretary of the House defends 'Wan Nor', insisting that the postponement of the casino law is a resolution of the meeting, not the decision of the president. 'Kamphar' insists that the president of the House abstained from voting, which is equivalent to not supporting after being criticized for not following Islamic principles.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Aphat Sukhanan, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, along with executives of the Office of the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, held a press conference regarding the postponement of the agenda of the House of Representatives meeting on the Integrated Entertainment Business Act. This act was set as the first agenda item in the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, followed by several draft bills, including those promoting a peaceful society and amnesty for political conflicts. The postponement led to societal misconceptions that the Speaker of the House of Representatives was exercising power to alter meeting regulations. However, it was clarified that the power rests with the meeting members who propose such motions. Consequently, five laws will be considered as the first agenda on 9 April, affirming that the Speaker did not act unilaterally but adhered to the meeting's resolution.

Mr. Kampee Dithakorn, spokesman for the President of the House of Representatives, addressed accusations concerning religious principles, clarifying that the President, being a Muslim, was criticized for allegedly not adhering to Islamic principles by supporting the postponement of the Entertainment Venue Act. Kampee clarified that the agenda modification is the responsibility of the proposing members and is executed according to the meeting's resolution. On religious matters, the President abstains from voting, which is equivalent to disagreement. This abstention aligns with Islamic principles, as agreeing would imply not conforming to religious tenets. The majority of Thais, including the Prachachat Party, oppose vices like gambling, and thus, abstaining is the appropriate method in accordance with Islamic principles.
