Heavy Rainfall Alert in Thailand: Five Provinces Urged to Brace for Impact

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has reported heavy rain across Thailand and warned five provinces at risk of heavy rain. Be on the lookout for a tropical depression, which is expected to intensify into a tropical storm, affecting Thailand from August 24-27.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has announced that some areas of Thailand will experience heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some areas of the eastern region. Residents, particularly in Tak, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga provinces, are advised to be cautious of the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rain that may occur during this period. This is due to the moderate southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. In addition, a low-pressure area is covering northern Laos and northern Vietnam.

For the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are approximately 2 meters high. For the lower Andaman Sea and lower Gulf of Thailand, waves are 1-2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, waves are higher than 2 meters. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

Furthermore, the depression over the upper South China Sea is likely to intensify into a tropical storm and will make landfall over Vietnam and upper Laos between August 25-26, 2025. This will cause increased rainfall in Thailand, with heavy to very heavy rain in many areas and strong winds in the upper northeastern and northern regions between August 24-27, 2025.
