Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued heavy rain across various parts of Thailand, urging residents in 10 provinces to be on alert for potential torrential downpours that may result in flash floods, mudslides, and river overflows. Thunderstorms are also anticipated in 60% of Bangkok and its surrounding areas. According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department forecasts that the heavy rain will persist over the next 24 hours, specifically impacting the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, and Tak. Residents in these regions are advised to remain vigilant against the risks posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall, which could trigger flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows, especially in hillside areas near waterways, low-lying regions, and areas already prone to flooding. The prevailing easterly and southeasterly winds over the northeastern region, coupled with a weakening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, are contributing to these conditions. The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate wave activity, with the upper Andaman Sea seeing waves around 2 meters high. Meanwhile, the lower Andaman Sea is reporting wave heights of 1-2 meters. In areas affected by thunderstorms, wave heights are expected to exceed 2 meters. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in regions experiencing thunderstorms. In Bangkok and its vicinity, thunderstorms are expected to cover 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 24-25 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 32-34 degrees Celsius, accompanied by southwesterly winds at 10-20 km/hr. The Northern Region anticipates thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain particularly affecting several provinces, including Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai, with temperatures between 22-25 degrees Celsius and 29-32 degrees Celsius. The Northeastern Region expects thunderstorms in 60% of the area, while the Central Region forecasts similar conditions, with heavy rain in selected areas. In the Eastern Region, thunderstorms are anticipated in 70% of the area, with the potential for heavy rain in Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. The Southern Regions, both East and West Coasts, are also expected to experience significant thunderstorm activity, with varying wind speeds and sea conditions across different provinces.
