Government’s Crackdown on Scammers Aims to Boost Thailand’s Global Position

Bangkok: "Killing three birds with one stone," declared Mr. Pris Wacharasindhu, a party list MP and spokesperson for the Prachachon Party, as he urged the government to urgently combat the growing problem of scammer gangs. The issue, he emphasized, affects not only Thailand but has global ramifications. He believes that proactive government action can address multiple concerns simultaneously.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pris outlined a threefold benefit from tackling the scammer issue. First, it would enhance the protection of the safety and property of citizens. Second, it would disrupt the income sources of influential figures in Cambodia, thereby potentially easing the Thai-Cambodian border dispute. Lastly, it could elevate Thailand's global standing by engaging major powers in discussions to jointly address the issue.

In the political arena, Mr. Pris addressed the conditions surrounding the potential dissolution of Parliament on January 31st, highlighting the necessity for constitutional amendments and a referendum in line with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). He stressed that the dissolution should not be used to evade scrutiny, and reaffirmed the People's Party's commitment to holding the government accountable while safeguarding public interests.

Regarding the Pheu Thai Party's possible no-confidence motion, Mr. Pris underscored the importance of careful deliberation over its content and justification. He acknowledged the Prachachon Party's right to propose a similar motion, but emphasized a balanced oversight approach to ensure both electoral integrity and a referendum. Mr. Pris assured that any government misconduct would be thoroughly investigated, maintaining a balance between pursuing reforms and protecting taxpayers' funds.
