Bangkok: The government has extended an invitation to the public to witness the procession of the sacred Buddha’s tooth relic, which will be enshrined at the Royal Plaza this afternoon. The relic, arriving from Don Mueang International Airport, will be open for public worship from December 5, 2024, to February 14, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the schedule for the sacred event, which includes the arrival of the relic at Don Mueang International Airport at approximately 1:00 p.m. Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra is set to preside over the ceremony at the Royal Ceremonial Ground, Sanam Luang, around 5:00 p.m. The temporary enshrinement of the relic in Thailand marks a significant occasion, coinciding with His Majesty the King’s 6th cycle birthday anniversary on July 28, 2024, and the 50th anniversary of Thailand-China diplomatic relations in 2025.
The procession will commence from the 2nd Military Airport, Wing 6, and wi
ll follow a route through Don Mueang elevated road, Yaowarat route, Lan Luang Road, and Ratchadamnoen Road to reach Phlap Phla Maha Jessada Bodin Square and Sanam Luang. A total of 24 processions will participate, involving representatives from Thai-Chinese agencies, organizations from the five religions network, and over 2,700 ethnic groups. The event will be broadcast live by the Public Relations Department of Thailand’s National Broadcasting Services, Channel NBT2HD.
Mr. Chirayu further elaborated that an exhibition to honor His Majesty the King on his birthday anniversary is set up around the Sanam Luang Ceremonial Ground. The exhibition is divided into five zones, each with a unique focus, including “The Passing of the Parinirvana, Makutphanthana Chedi” and “Thai-Chinese Relations.”
The government has also arranged for BMTA buses and boats to facilitate transportation for the public. Officials will provide flowers for worship and postcards with prayers for the sacred relic. The public is encouraged to
participate in this auspicious event, which concludes on February 14, 2025, before the relic is returned on February 15, 2025.
