Government Accelerates Expansion of Water Projects to Tackle Drought Nationwide

Bangkok: The government is accelerating the expansion of water projects to solve drought problems nationwide. The initiative aims to increase the efficiency of the energy system and support the expansion of communities in the future.

According to Thai News Agency, the government has responded to the royal initiative by expanding water projects to address the drought crisis. Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra highlighted the importance of water management infrastructure after visiting two significant groundwater supply projects in Kanchanaburi Province. These projects are designed to cater to the agricultural and industrial sectors and address the insufficient water supply system.

The projects at Ban Pak Chat Nong Bua, Lao Khwan District, and Ban Nong Bua Hing, Huai Krachao District, serve as exemplary models of water management under the royal initiative. They focus on the conditions of the area and the needs of the people, featuring water pumping systems, storage tanks, distribution points, and underground water banks. The use of solar energy in conjunction with water pumping systems ensures that citizens have access to sustainable clean water.

His Majesty the King has approved 15 large-scale groundwater supply projects in 11 provinces as royal initiatives. In Kanchanaburi Province alone, these projects have benefited over 16,000 people, reducing water purchase costs by 2,000 baht per month per household. The agricultural sector has seen a significant increase in water production, benefiting more than 1,000 rai of land.

The government plans to expand these projects nationwide, improving energy efficiency and preparing for future community expansion while maintaining groundwater resource balance. The government has allocated a budget under the economic stimulus program to enhance infrastructure for water management and improve quality across all areas.

These efforts underscore the government's commitment to addressing water as both an infrastructure and daily life issue, ensuring sustainable development for the nation.
