Gas Explosion and Fire in Mueang Pathum Thani District Claims One Life, Injures Seven


Pathum thani: A gas explosion and subsequent fire have devastated a village in the Mueang Pathum Thani District, leading to the death of one individual, injuries to seven others, and significant damage to three houses.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place in Ban Phanasan Village, Soi 2, Ban Chang Subdistrict. The Pathum Thani City Police were alerted in the morning about the explosion, prompting a swift response from police, firefighters, and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The fire began in the house operating as a beauty salon owned by Aunt Wanna, numbered 69/129, and quickly spread to the neighboring houses, numbers 128 and 130, causing extensive damage.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from the home of Ms. Petchkamon, aged 63, while she was cooking food to sell at the market. She accidentally left the gas on, leading to the explosion and subsequent fire that claimed her life. Ms. Petchkamon’s son, who was asleep on the second floor, managed to es
cape by jumping from a window onto a nearby car, resulting in minor injuries. Seven others sustained injuries during the incident.

A volunteer from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation was transported to a nearby hospital after experiencing chest pains. Additionally, a Toyota pickup truck and two motorcycles were damaged by falling debris and limestone near the scene. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and investigations into the exact cause of the explosion and fire are ongoing.

Mr. Somkhwan, the owner of house number 69/128, recounted hearing a loud explosion that caused damage to his house’s ceiling and injured his son and daughter-in-law. His property, including his car, suffered damage from the blast.

Police conducted a thorough inspection of the site, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation transported Ms. Petchkamon’s body to the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Medicine to ascertain the precise cause of death.
