Flooding Crisis in Phatthalung Province: 10 Districts Affected

Phatthalung province: Two days of heavy rain in Phatthalung Province have resulted in widespread flooding across 10 districts, particularly along the Khuan Khanun-Sri Banphot District route. Nearly 100 houses along both sides of the road have been flooded.

According to Thai News Agency, officials from the Royal Irrigation Department and local administrative officials in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province are rushing to install water-pushing equipment in the Na Muang canal. This action is taking place on Phatthanakan Khu Khwang Road in Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, after water from the Luang mountain range inundated the municipality. They are closely monitoring rising water levels. Meanwhile, residents in several affected communities have moved their belongings to temporary shelters in Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality. Several roads remain flooded, with some areas still accessible for travel.

The severe flooding in several areas of Phatthalung is worrying. Two days of accumulated heavy rain have caused flooding across 47 sub-districts, 242 villages, and 8 communities, affecting 33,384 people. This is particularly true in areas near the foot of Khao Banthat in Kong Ra District and in Khuan Khanun District, which receive water from Khao Pu-Khao Ya National Park. Officials from all agencies are closely monitoring the situation, especially in the critical area on Asia Road near the Pho Thong Intersection on the northbound side. Flash floods from the Banthat Mountains have overflowed down a stream, past the Tha Nae Weir, and flooded the road. Although the road surface is inundated, all vehicles can still pass through. The 300-meter route from Khuan Khanun to Si Banphot District, a low-lying area receiving water from several canals, has seen water levels rise above normal. Nearly 100 houses along the roadside have been flooded. All districts are urged to establish 24-hour operational teams to monitor th e situation.

In Satun Province, more than 1,500 households are facing flooding. Six districts, nine sub-districts, and 30 villages have been affected. Recently, water from Khuan Don District has flowed into the outskirts of Chalung Sub-district. Last night, it inundated the inner areas of Chalung Sub-district and the Chalung Sub-district Municipality. The Chalung Municipal Fresh Market has been particularly flooded, forcing vendors, such as vegetable and fish vendors, to relocate their stalls to the sidewalk in front of the market. On the Chalung-Langu Road, officials have blocked off one lane of traffic on both the inbound and outbound sides due to rising water levels. Meanwhile, in Nam Phut Sub-district, Langu District, soldiers from the Samantaburin Camp are helping villagers move their belongings to Villages 11 and 13, as floodwaters rapidly inundate the area.
