Flash floods inundate Ban Rai Municipality, Uthai Thani

Last night, flash floods occurred in Uthai Thani Province. Although the water level had receded this morning, it has left behind some distress, especially damaged homes and cars of the people, some of which were swept away by the water. After heavy rains in the evening yesterday (19 Oct), a reddish flood caused a violent overflow from the mountain area, flowing into the commercial area of ??Ban Rai Subdistrict Municipality, Ban Rai District, Uthai Thani Province. The water was so strong that cars were swept away by the current, causing extensive damage. Some were trapped in their upper floors of their houses, unable to move their belongings or evacuate the area in time because the current was faster and stronger than in previous years. In addition to the damaged houses, the walls of Ban Rai Temple also collapsed due to the flood. There were also cars belonging to locals in the Ban Rai fresh market and cars of tourists who shared pictures of cars that were swept away by the flood before they were found again at around 4:00 p.m. and there was a warning that the bridge in Village No. 4, Ban Na Thung Chueak, was broken on both sides, all types of vehicles could not pass through. In addition, the famous cafe, Sanam Cafe and Bistro, posted pictures of the damage as well. Rescue workers have mobilized to help people trapped in their homes, and some have lost power. Bin Banleurit has joined the rescue team to provide assistance. While Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior, visited the area to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the victims and tourists closely, both in terms of manpower and equipment support from officers, volunteers, and local foundations, such as the 16th Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center, Chainat, the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the District Irrigation Project, the Emergency Medical Service Unit, the local military unit, the police, volunteers, and the Village Defense Volunteers. Throughout the night, the water level has continuously decreas ed. In the morning, the water level in Ban Rai Subdistrict has completely decreased. Officers are cleaning the main road to open the route for people to travel. Locals said that the water began to rise at around 7pm. Even though they had prepared sandbags, they could not withstand the strong current that was higher than the sandbags. Many people said in unison that they had never encountered such a strong flash flood. After the water receded in the morning, they began cleaning up the mud and gradually removing damaged items.
