Tel Aviv: Five Thai hostages, recently released from captivity by Hamas, have opened up about their harrowing experiences, likening their ordeal to dying and being reborn. They expressed their joy at being free and shared their hopes of returning home to Thailand, where they look forward to reuniting with family and enjoying traditional Thai meals.
According to Thai News Agency, the hostages were visited by Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and a delegation including Mr. Rasm Chalichan, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Panpa Chandrarom, Ambassador to Tel Aviv, and General Songwit Noonpakdee, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. The group traveled to Tel Aviv to offer support and encouragement to the five individuals, who are currently receiving medical care in an Israeli hospital.
Mr. Phongsak Tanna, one of the hostages, expressed his gratitude for being alive and in good health. He shared that he has been in contact with his family in Buriram, who are relieved and happy about his safe return. Phongsak described his first meal after release, which included chicken, papaya salad, and sushi, as a joyous experience.
Reflecting on his time in captivity, Phongsak recounted the challenging conditions, surviving on basic food items such as flour, cheese, and beans. Despite the difficulties, he kept hope alive, motivated by the thought of reuniting with his 15-year-old daughter, whom he hasn't seen in over seven years.
Mr. Banwach Sae Thao also conveyed his happiness at being free. While his health suffered during captivity, he maintained hope of returning home to his family. He shared that despite fears about his fate, his captors assured him that he would not be harmed and provided him with food to survive.
The hostages revealed that they supported each other during their ordeal, sharing encouragement and hope that they would eventually return home. Mr. Bannawat described their living conditions as isolated, with minimal exposure to the outside world, and limited bathing opportunities. Nevertheless, they managed to persevere with the belief that help would come.
Mr. Wutthichai Sri-uan expressed his joy at being released, driven by the hope of reuniting with his family. He looked forward to spending time with his daughter and parents upon returning home.
Surasak Lamnao and Mr. Somsak also shared their experiences, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and finding strength in the hope of eventual rescue. They spoke about their desire to return to Thailand and savor traditional dishes like larb, tom zap, and soi chu.
The hostages' stories highlight their resilience and determination to survive under challenging circumstances, as they look forward to rebuilding their lives with their families in Thailand.
