Famous Roti Shop in Chiang Mai Attracts Long Lines of Tourists with Michelin Guide Recognition

Chiang Mai: Tourists are forming long queues in front of Wat Mahawan in Chiang Mai, eager to purchase roti from the renowned Roti Pa De stall. Known for its consistent quality, the shop has been awarded the Michelin Guide award for five consecutive years, ensuring its status as a must-visit location. Visitors can expect to wait for at least 30 minutes due to the popularity of this street food destination.

According to Thai News Agency, Roti Pa De offers over 20 varieties of roti, all at affordable prices, with a regular serving priced at just 15 baht. The stall's unique preparation method involves frying the roti in coconut oil, which imparts a fragrant buttery aroma and results in a crispy exterior with a soft interior. This distinctive taste draws a diverse crowd of tourists from Europe, Korea, and China.

Mrs. Sapparayan Rakprapaphan, affectionately known as Aunt De, is the 76-year-old owner of the stall. She starts selling in the evening and continues until around 2 a.m., or until the line of customers dwindles. Though she wishes to close earlier, the persistent demand keeps her hands full. The Michelin Guide recognition from 2021 to 2025, coupled with positive customer reviews and social media shares, has made Roti Pa De a popular check-in spot for international visitors. Aunt De takes pride in her work, knowing that her roti has become a culinary highlight for many tourists visiting Chiang Mai.
