Durian Stall Owner ‘Jay Kaew’ Missing for Two Days with Gold and Cash

Surat Thani: Still no sign of 'Jay Kaew', the durian stall owner who has been missing for two days with 20 baht of gold and 100,000 baht in cash. Her husband is asking the police and social media to help find her, fearing that something bad will happen.

According to Thai News Agency, relatives of Ms. Sujitra, also known as 'Jay Kaew', aged 43, reported her missing at the Surat Thani City Police Station. Ms. Sujitra disappeared on May 17 after finishing her work at the durian stall in Pho Wai Market, Tambon Bang Kung, Amphoe Mueang, Surat Thani Province. She was last seen riding her motorcycle home, a short distance of about 2 km, at approximately 7:40 p.m.

Sister Kaew, Ms. Sujitra's sibling, mentioned that she had spoken to her sister over the phone on the day of her disappearance. Ms. Sujitra had informed her that she was about to leave the stall to go home. When Sister Kaew realized her sister had not arrived home, she attempted to contact her, but received no response. Ms. Sujitra was known to wear a 5 baht gold necklace, a 10 baht gold bracelet, and a 5 baht gold ring. On the day of her disappearance, she carried no less than 100,000 baht in cash from durian sales.

Reporters visited the durian wholesale stall at Pho Wai Market and spoke with Mr. Phongsaphan, Ms. Kaew's husband. He explained that he was in Chanthaburi Province to buy durians but had been in contact with his wife throughout the day. Before the incident, at around 6:00 PM, Ms. Sujitra went to the mall to transfer over 200,000 baht for a durian purchase. She then returned to the stall to meet durian customers from Phang Nga Province. At around 8:00 PM, Mr. Phongsaphan received a call from a customer saying the stall was closed and Ms. Sujitra was not present. Concerned, he asked relatives to check the stall. Finding no one there, he quickly returned from Chanthaburi and filed a police report.

Mr. Phongsaphan firmly believes the disappearance was not related to a love affair but suspects it was a planned act to steal his wife's belongings. He recalled an incident three years ago when Ms. Sujitra left home due to his infidelity, but insists that matter was resolved. He hopes this is another case of running away and pleads for her safety. Managing the durian stall, previously his wife's responsibility, now falls on him. He remains deeply worried about her well-being and urges no harm comes to her.

Initial reports indicated that two phones were missing, but they were later found in the shop with dead batteries. Several hundred thousand baht intended for durian payment was also recovered in the shop. Despite this, there has been no contact or information about Ms. Sujitra, leaving the family anxious. They appeal to the police to expedite the investigation and urge social media users and the public to report any clues to authorities.

The investigation team of Surat Thani City Police Station is currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby private companies. Unfortunately, municipal CCTV cameras are unavailable due to ongoing area improvements involving the burial of power lines and removal of electric poles.
