Bangkok: In a dramatic late-night operation, Bangkok police apprehended a key suspect involved in a drug smuggling ring after a high-speed chase and shootout. The incident, which unfolded in the Sai Mai district, involved a shootout and collision with multiple vehicles before law enforcement managed to arrest one of the perpetrators and seize a significant quantity of narcotics. According to Thai News Agency, the chaos began around 10:30 p.m. on October 22, when police officers at Sai Mai Police Station attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle, a bronze-gray sedan, refused to comply and sped off, prompting a pursuit by patrol officers. The chase extended for nearly 10 kilometers, with the suspects firing shots at officers and causing damage to more than 10 vehicles before crashing into a concrete wall. The driver, identified as Mr. Wuttisak, aged 37, was apprehended at the scene. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered a kilogram of crystal methamphetamine and 160,000 pills in the trunk. Mr. Wutt isak, who was injured in the crash, was taken into custody. However, his accomplices, identified as Mr. Neng and a woman named Maew, initially managed to evade arrest by hiding in a nearby residence. Police surrounded the area and, after a six-hour standoff, were able to take Maew into custody, although Mr. Neng is believed to have fled during the confusion. Police investigations revealed that the vehicle was registered to Mr. Wanchai, 65, Mr. Wuttisak's father, who has a criminal history. The authorities are pursuing further investigations and have issued arrest warrants for the suspects who remain at large. Mr. Wuttisak, during initial interrogation, claimed he was hired by Mr. Neng, who has previous drug-related charges, to drive the vehicle due to Neng's lack of a driver's license. Pol. Col. Rangsan stated that the arrested suspects are undergoing further interrogation, and forensic officers are inspecting the vehicle. The police are determined to capture the remaining suspects and dismantle the drug op eration.
