Pathum Thani: Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over a solemn merit-making ceremony for the 23 victims of the tragic Uthai Thani school bus fire. The event, held in front of Zeer Rangsit, aimed to provide moral support and honor the deceased. In attendance were various dignitaries, including Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior, and Mr. Chatda Thaiset, a former Deputy Minister of Interior, among others. According to Thai News Agency, the merit-making ceremony was organized to express condolences to the families affected by the devastating fire that occurred on October 1, 2024. The tragic incident, which took place in Pathum Thani Province, represents a significant loss for the local community and the nation. The ceremony was conducted to send the spirits of the 23 deceased to a peaceful place, with participation from several government officials and religious leaders, including Phra Wacharanyanamuni, the abbot of Bang Prok Subdistrict. Mr. Anutin le d the religious rituals, lighting candles and offering monk robes, as part of the Buddhist traditions to honor the deceased. The event was a collaborative effort between the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization and the Ministry of Interior, with the aim of providing solace and support to the grieving families and ensuring that the spirits of the victims are at peace. In the aftermath of the incident, Mr. Anutin emphasized the need for strict enforcement of safety regulations in public transport services to prevent similar tragedies. He confirmed that legal actions have been taken against those responsible for the violations that led to this disaster, including revoking licenses of the operators involved. Compensation for the victims has been addressed, with funds provided by the Prime Minister's Office and insurance payouts. Additional fundraising efforts led by Mr. Chatda and Ms. Sabida are underway to support the families further. Mr. Chatda noted that each affected family will receive 3.5 million baht in insurance compensation, and additional funds are being raised for three seriously injured individuals, with plans to provide over 1 million baht each for their recovery. Mr. Anutin reiterated his commitment to not canceling educational study tours, emphasizing the importance of maintaining rigorous standards for transport and safety. He called for continued vigilance and adherence to regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in future excursions.
