Constitutional Court Sets March 26 Date for Decision on Somchai Lenglak’s Senate Membership

Bangkok: The Constitutional Court is set to decide on March 26 whether Somchai Lenglak will be removed from the Senate following a Supreme Court ruling that revoked his rights for a decade. The ruling, dated September 23, 2567, found grounds to revoke Mr. Somchai's right to run for election for ten years, effectively terminating his Senate membership under the constitutional guidelines.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission has requested the Constitutional Court to order Mr. Somchai to cease performing his duties until a final decision is made under the Constitution's Section 82. The Commission has also sought a declaration that Mr. Somchai's position be vacated from the date the decision is pronounced, in accordance with the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators B.E. 2561 and related procedures.

In response, Mr. Somchai submitted a defense statement to the Constitutional Court. The Court concluded that the case involved legal issues with sufficient evidence for consideration, leading to the termination of further investigation as per the Organic Act on the Procedure of the Constitutional Court B.E. 2561. The Court has scheduled an oral statement and discussion meeting, along with a vote, on Wednesday, March 26, 2568, at 9:30 a.m. The verdict will be announced at 3:00 p.m. at the Constitutional Court's designated courtroom.
