Concrete Overflow Incident on Rama II Road Not Due to Structural Collapse, Confirms Department of Highways

Bangkok: The Department of Highways has addressed concerns regarding an incident involving concrete flowing onto Rama II Road, clarifying that it was a result of construction activity and not a structural collapse.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 1:55 a.m. on October 27, 2025, at the construction site of Motorway No. 82 (M82) project, Ekkachai - Ban Phaeo section, at km 29+600 on Rama II Road (Highway No. 35), in front of Talay Thai Market, heading towards Bangkok. This incident, managed by the UN-ASI Joint Venture, happened during the pouring of concrete for the Lower Cross Beam. During this process, some ready-mixed concrete overflowed from the side form and onto the tarpaulin, subsequently spilling onto the parallel road below and temporarily blocking one lane of traffic.

In response to the situation, the contractor, Department of Highways officials from the Samut Sakhon Highway District, and the Bridge Construction Office promptly mobilized personnel and machinery to clean the affected area. Traffic resumed normal flow within approximately 30 minutes, and there were no reports of property damage, injuries, or fatalities.

The Department of Highways has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and reassured the public that the incident was confined to the construction process without any structural failures or subsidence issues on the elevated road. To avoid similar occurrences, the Department has advised the contractor to exercise increased caution and diligence throughout the work process, implement preventative measures, and provide official public updates as necessary.
