Comptroller General’s Department Alerts Public Against Fake Deposit Protection Documents

Bangkok: The Comptroller General's Department has issued a warning to the public not to be deceived by fraudulent documents that claim to offer protection for savings accounts. The department emphasized that it does not have any policy that involves officials directly contacting civil servants, pensioners, or their heirs.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Thiwaporn Phasuk, the Deputy Director-General and spokesperson of the Comptroller General's Department, disclosed that fake documents are circulating, purportedly from department executives and other agencies. These documents instruct civil servants, permanent employees, and pensioners to submit documents for deposit account protection, supposedly to create deposit protection guarantees as per the law. The fraudsters also urge pensioners to request personal data protection, promising measures against personal data violations, including rights to information, objection, deletion, suspension of use, and correction or amendment of data. The scammers falsely claim that the Comptroller General's Department mandates these requests to enhance the security of deposit accounts.

The spokesperson advised, "If you are contacted in such a manner, please do not believe it and check with your relevant agency before taking any action." The department emphasized it has no policy for officials to contact individuals for actions related to its missions. To avoid falling victim to scams, individuals should follow news from the Comptroller General's Department through reliable channels. These include the department's official website, www.cgd.go.th, its verified social media, or by directly contacting the Comptroller General's Department Call Center at 0 2270 6400 during office hours.
