Commerce-Orchard Owners Extend Invitation to Join Pak Chong GI Durian Festival

Nakhon ratchasima: Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Commerce and orchard owners are inviting everyone to join the GI Pak Chong Khao Yai Durian Festival, offering a variety of fruits for tasting.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Chutatip Kreejangreed, Head of Business Promotion and Marketing Group at the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Commerce Office, has extended an invitation to the public and tourists to visit and purchase durian fruits at the "Pak Chong Khao Yai GI Durian Festival." This local durian was registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) in 2021, and currently, 66 farmer orchards have been certified to guarantee quality for durian enthusiasts who appreciate the sweet and fragrant taste of Pak Chong durian.

During the long holiday, the Ministry of Commerce encourages tourists to visit the festival, where numerous fruit farmers display their produce, including avocados with a local flavor and chewy flesh, Pak Chong Khao Yai custard apples-which are also GI-registered-and dragon fruits, among others. The festival is an opportunity for tourists to experience the special characteristics of Pak Chong fruits, derived from the fertile soil of the region. Visitors are invited to stop by, taste, and purchase fruits to take home for family and friends. The festival is being held at Nong Nam Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, the entrance to Khao Yai, and will run until July 28.

Teacher Uat Nantana Wongsamitkul of Wongsamitkul Garden highlighted the unique qualities of Pak Chong durian, noting that its location in the northeastern region with a dry climate enhances the sweetness of all fruits, including the Pak Chong rambutan. The Pak Chong durian, when ripe, has a very subtle aroma due to its low sulfur content, resulting in a softer yellow color compared to durians from other regions. However, its taste is fragrant and soft, promising a delightful experience for those who try it.
