China to Reduce BY2 Random Inspections for Thai Durian Warehouses with Good Systems

Beijing: The Minister of Agriculture revealed that GACC has reduced the random inspection of BY2 substances at Chinese import checkpoints for Thai durian warehouses that have passed the criteria, and emphasized that entrepreneurs must continuously maintain standards.

According to Thai News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, discussed with Dr. Sun Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), during a visit to Beijing in February aimed at promoting agricultural trade between the two countries. The GACC has recently agreed with the Thai Department of Agriculture to grade packing houses and announced measures to reduce the level of random inspection of BY2 substances at import checkpoints for durian warehouses with good management systems. This will be effective from May 10, 2025, onwards.

The Minister of Agriculture stated that the measure will help speed up and reduce the cost of importing durian from China, which will benefit Thai entrepreneurs who strictly comply with the regulations. Thailand also has nine laboratories for analyzing BY2 substances before export and is in the process of applying to re-use four more, which is sufficient for the amount of durian prepared for export to China.

The Ministry of Agriculture is asking for cooperation from business operators to control the quality of their products according to the specified measures, and to continuously clean the packing plant and equipment to maintain standards and ensure smooth and sustainable exports.
