Chiang Mai Sees High Voter Turnout Despite Cold Weather

Chiang Mai: The Election Commission Chairman is expressing confidence that citizens across the country will participate in the elections as anticipated. In Chiang Mai, a significant number of people are making their way to polling stations to cast their votes.

According to Thai News Agency, the election for members of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization Council and the Mayor of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization has seen a steady influx of voters. The Chairman is optimistic that both nationwide and in Chiang Mai, the voter turnout will meet the expectations set for this election period.

Despite the cold morning weather, residents of Chiang Mai have shown a strong commitment to exercising their voting rights. In particular, the polling stations at Sala Angkaew, Chiang Mai University, have been bustling with activity. These stations, covering polling stations 26-29 in Tambon Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, serve over 1,700 eligible voters, with a significant proportion being young students who are keenly engaged in this local election. Other polling stations in Chiang Mai are experiencing a similarly lively atmosphere, such as the one at Wat Muang Kai, where military personnel from the 33rd Military Circle queued early to cast their votes.

Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, conducted inspections at 10 polling units in the Mueang Chiang Mai District. He engaged with polling unit committees to ensure a smooth electoral process, emphasizing the use of the Smart Vote application to enhance voter convenience. The Chairman is confident that this election will see over 65 percent of eligible voters participating, with Chiang Mai Province setting a target of 75 percent turnout from its 1.3 million eligible voters.

At the Phiman Dek School polling station in Pa Daet Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District, the Secretary of the Political Attache of the British Embassy in Thailand observed the election proceedings and discussed various aspects of the election with the Chairman of the Election Commission.
