Cavalry Detains 18 Cambodian Soldiers in Sam Tae Area After Surrender

Sisaket: The Royal Thai Army has disclosed the detention of 18 Cambodian soldiers following a raid by cavalry forces on a Cambodian stronghold in the Sam Tae area, Sisaket Province. The soldiers surrendered and were disarmed according to international humanitarian principles, following which the necessary procedures were undertaken.

According to Thai News Agency, Major General Winthai Suwaree, the Army spokesman, reported that the Second Army Region had successfully detained the Cambodian soldiers after a clash in the Sam Tae area, Kantharalak District. The incident unfolded after Cambodian forces fired heavy and curved weapons into Thai territory, prompting the Thai side to deploy a special cavalry unit to counterattack and clear out the stronghold.

The operation resulted in the surrender of several Cambodian soldiers without any resistance. The Thai unit proceeded to disarm and detain the 18 soldiers, which included one Second Lieutenant, two Sergeants, 12 Sergeants, two Corporals, and one Corporal. Among them, Sergeant Mom Ritthi sustained injuries to the right hip and left arm and was subsequently sent to the hospital for surgery. Additionally, two deceased individuals were discovered in the area.

Currently, the detained Cambodian soldiers are under the control of the Second Army Area's secure facility, where they are receiving basic care such as clothing, food, drinking water, and medical treatment as required. This treatment is in alignment with international military practice and international humanitarian principles, with further procedures to follow.

For the deceased, the Thai side is committed to returning the bodies in line with international practices, ensuring dignity in the treatment of corpses during wartime.

The Royal Thai Army reiterates its commitment to human rights principles, international humanitarian law, and Thailand's obligations under the Geneva Conventions in treating soldiers and the bodies of opponents with respect and dignity.
