Cambodian Soldiers Found Ambushing with Mines on Thai Border

Bangkok: The Interior Minister reported a concerning development on the Thai-Cambodian border, where Cambodian soldiers were found ambushing on Hill 350 prior to encountering PMN-2 mines.

According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Region provided an update on the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border, noting the presence of Cambodian soldiers from the BHQ unit. These soldiers were discovered ambushing on Hill 350, inspecting the Thai side, before they encountered a PMN-2 mine. The incident occurred on August 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., when Thai soldiers identified approximately 2-3 Cambodian soldiers, recognizable by their black FAST helmets, in the western part of Hill 350, within Bak Dai Subdistrict of Phanom Dong Rak District in Surin Province. The soldiers were found about 100 meters from the operational line into the Thai side.

While examining the area, the Thai unit discovered a PMN-2 mine close to the ambush location. A mine detector was used to conduct a detailed inspection, and the area was marked for further investigation by a specialized mine detection team.

The discovery indicates that Cambodia continues to employ anti-personnel mines within Thai territory, constituting a breach of both the ceasefire agreement and the Ottawa Treaty. The continuous use of such mines poses significant security concerns for the region.

Thai soldiers remain vigilant, closely monitoring the situation to defend national sovereignty. They are committed to ensuring the peace and safety of the nation, its religion, monarchy, and people.
