Cabinet Approves 139.93 Million Baht Budget for Southern Border Provinces Relief

Bangkok: The Cabinet has sanctioned a budget of 139.93 million baht to aid 279 individuals impacted by the ongoing unrest in the southern border provinces. This allocation comes from the central budget for fiscal year 2025 and falls under the Emergency or Necessary Reserve Fund.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak disclosed that the disbursement will be managed by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC). The SBPAC will integrate the relief funds into existing budgets and submit an operational and budget plan to the Budget Bureau (B.B.A.) for further evaluation.

Mr. Anukul further explained that for the fiscal year 2025, the SBPAC received a 70 million baht budget dedicated to the Strategic Plan for Preventing and Resolving Issues Affecting Security and other related expenditures. However, as of June 30, 2025, 63.35 million baht had already been expended, rendering the available funds insufficient to cover government advances in the provinces.

The SBPAC requested an additional budget allocation to cover compensation for physical and property damages suffered by the 279 affected individuals, in line with Cabinet resolutions. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced that the Prime Minister has approved the utilization of these funds, including the central budget and the reserve fund for emergencies, to ensure the provision of necessary assistance and compensation.
