Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs, Bowornsak Uwanno, announced a decisive move towards the implementation of the "Legal Guillotine" project, setting a three-month deadline for civil servants to act. The initiative aims at expediting the repeal and amendment of regulations that have become burdensome to the public. Bowornsak emphasized the urgency of the project, particularly concerning Royal Decrees, Ministerial Regulations, and other costly and time-consuming regulations. He warned that "further measures" would be taken if tangible progress is not made within the allocated timeframe.
According to Thai News Agency, Bowornsak highlighted the key ministries in dire need of reform, including the Interior, Commerce, Public Health, and Agriculture. Despite the vigilance of the bureaucracy, some regulations continue to weigh heavily on the public, prompting a call for cooperation from ministers, permanent secretaries, and directors-general across all agencies. The goal is to expedite the dismantling of outdated laws, with the project expected to be completed within four months under the Anutin Charnvirakul government.
Bowornsak asserted that the legal guillotine will enhance the country's performance in competitiveness, rule of law, and good governance. He made it clear that the initiative is not motivated by personal gain but is intended to facilitate Thailand's entry into the OECD and modernize the civil service system, ensuring greater transparency and fairness for citizens.
