Bangkok: Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, has confirmed that there is clear evidence against Mr. Samart Jenchaijitwanich, a former member of the Palang Pracharath Party, regarding financial misconduct involving over 100 million baht. The case involves extortion from business operators and connections to Boss Di-Icon, with funds also tied to football gambling activities. According to Thai News Agency, the investigation revealed that Mr. Samart's account showed traces of a 500,000 baht transfer, prompting authorities to press additional charges. The police have gathered evidence that suggests these funds were involved in extortion activities. A substantial sum in the account was linked to The Icon Company, raising questions about potential money laundering. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is set to question a key witness next week. Further investigations have uncovered a network of financial connections involving civil servants and indivi duals associated with The Icon. These links require thorough examination to determine the origins of the funds, which include approximately 30 million baht from football gambling and losses amounting to 50 million baht. Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat emphasized the importance of addressing all financial connections and confirmed that legal action would be pursued. Responding to Mr. Samart's claims of unfair treatment and his hunger strike, Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat stated that the officers acted based on evidence, not harassment. He reassured that the investigation adhered to scientific methods and real victims were involved. The authorities are determined to bring Mr. Samart into legal proceedings due to incriminating audio evidence and his attempts to influence civil servant appointments for personal gain. In addressing societal concerns, Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat mentioned efforts to ensure influencers and related parties respect the law, emphasizing the need to clear societal distractions and slander. The national police chief has urged decisive action against any wrongdoing within government agencies, likening it to a societal cleanup. The goal is to uphold integrity across agencies, providing a metaphorical New Year's gift to the community.
